Rail to Trail: Slovakia.

Exploring Europe’s hidden MTB gem – from Bratislava to Martin by train and bike.

Rail to Trail: Slovakia by Train

Thinking of a mountain bike trip? Finale or Canada probably come to mind. But what about Slovakia? That’s exactly what we – Paul Feser, Paul Köhler, and I (Kasi Schmidt) – set out to explore! Armed with our bikes and train tickets, we traveled from Bratislava to Martin in search of the best trails and great locals.

Trails, Gaps & the Perfect Bike

My SCOR 4060 was the ultimate companion: technical trails in Martin, smooth runs in Bratislava, and big air in Kalnica – this bike eats it all for breakfast. I briefly considered bringing the SCOR 2030, but after seeing the massive gaps in Kalnica, I was happy with the extra reserves of the 4060.

Train Travel = Adventure Mode On

First challenge? German Rail. Classic. We got stranded in Munich before the trip had even properly started. But after a long journey, we finally rolled into Bratislava, ready for action. And wow, what an adventure! Everywhere we went, we were welcomed with open arms, discovering incredible trails – from flowy singletracks to gnarly enduro lines.

PS:

Our cameraman, Paul Köhler, was riding the SCOR 4060 Z E-Bike – which turned out to be an absolute game-changer. Not only was it a mobile gear hauler, but it also doubled as a shuttle service. Poor Paul, already loaded down with a huge backpack, still had to tow two guys up the climbs! 😆

Verdict: Slovakia = MTB Goldmine!

Highlight of the trip? Definitely our accidental detour into the middle of nowhere. Wrong station, no platform, just rails and a grumpy station master – but hey, epic trails as a reward!

Breathtaking scenery, killer trails, and super chill locals – all easily accessible by train. Slovakian rail? Punctual, bike-friendly (just don’t forget to reserve your spot!) and perfect for a rail-to-trail adventure.

So, what are you waiting for? Grab your bike and go – Slovakia is calling! 🚲💨
